Infant Oral Fluoride Varnish
The AAP recommends that all infants receive oral health assessments. Healthy gums and teeth are important to a child’s overall health. It is recommended that they receive fluoride varnish treatments to help prevent tooth decay. It can be applied once the first tooth has erupted in the pediatrician’s office til the child has a dental home. Fluoride varnish is safe, only small amount is used, hardly any is swallowed, applied quickly in the office and brushed off after 8-12 hours. General guidelines on how to care for your child’s teeth after the fluoride varnish is applied will be given to you at the time of the application.
